WoodSmoke Yurts

WoodSmoke Yurts is owned and managed by Ben Lawless.

Since being an assistant to Mike Abbot in Herefordshire Ben spent years making green wood furniture. He travelled throughout the festival circuit with Lizzie sharing his knowledge and skills through pole lathe tuition and spoon carving workshops with The Roots Workshop. After their first child together and stumbling across Somerset, they decided to put some roots down and there Ben made his first ger in 2010. He instantly became hooked on learning all about these beautiful structures. It soon led to the festival workshop evolving into steam bending yurt crowns, and now having three wonderful children, all who contribute to the business in their own funny little ways,  it has grown into a lovely little busin

All of the yurts are made by using ancient methods of steam bending to create beautiful Kyrgyz-style arched frames, making the overall structure as strong as possible.

The timber is treated with natural oils giving the frame a golden finish. Only the best trees are selected from managed woodland near Glastonbury and more often than not the timber is milled by Ben himself. Ben is at every stage of the process from the woodland to the finished product.

Ash is used for the frames and Ben makes bespoke hard wood doors. The covers are made from 12oz Regentex Poly Cotton and are rot, water and fire treated to BS standards.  Also available are cotton liners, ground sheets and matting, wood burners and insulation.

You are welcome to arrange a visit to the workshop near Pilton, Somerset where you will be happily shown around, and can discuss any requirements you have for your yurt.

Deliveries throughout the U.K, also France, Spain and Portugal.
